Sandro Scalise

Sandro Scalise was born in Utrecht, Holland in April 1973. In July 1999, he graduated in electronic engineering specialising in telecommunications (with honours) from University of Ferrara, Ferrara, Italy. In 2007, he received his Ph.D. degree (summa cum laude) from University of Vigo, Vigo, Spain. Since 2001, he works at the Institute for Communications and Navigation, DLR (German Aerospace Centre), Germany, where, from October 2004 to June 2008, he has been leading the Mobile Satellite Systems Group. Since July 2008, he is leading the Digital Networks Department. His research activity deals mainly with the design of mobile satellite communications systems. He is coauthor of more than 50 international journal and conference papers, cochairman of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th Advanced Satellite Mobile Systems Conferences in 2006, 2008, and 2010 respectively, and editor of a chapter devoted to satellite channel impairments within the book Digital Satellite Communications, published by Springer. Since June 2006, he is leading the R&D Working Group of ISI European Technology Platform.
