Mohammed Ashraf Gondal
Mohammed A. Gondal is a distinguished Professor at KhAI’ Physics department and Coordinator of the laser group at the King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, Saudi Arabia. He got his Ph.D. degree from the Applied Physics Institute, the University of Bonn, Germany, (1983) in high-resolution spectroscopy of molecules using laser magnetic resonance technique. He was appointed as a Regular Associate Member of the International Center for Theoretical Physics, Trieste, Italy (from 1988 to 1995).His research interests include design and fabrication of different kinds of lasers, laser remote sensing, pollution monitoring, development of laser-based high sensitive analytical techniques (LIDAR, PAS, LIBS, and LEI) nanotechnology, synthesis of nanoengineered metal oxides using laser, and their applications in corrosion inhibition, petrochemicals, such as methane cracking using photolysis, laser photocatalysis for production of high-value hydrocarbons, and hydrogen generation for fuel cells development, wastewater treatment for removal of pollutants and disinfection of bacteria, laser desulfurization of crude oil, and laser applications in atomic and molecular spectroscopy. Gondal has published over 290 research papers in journals and conferences of high repute. He obtained the Almarai Award of Scientific Innovation for the year 2011 for his invention in the field of environment using nanostructured materials. Gondal was awarded twice the Distinguished Researcher award by KFUPM for the years 2005 and 2006 and 2010 and 2011. He was awarded the Best Paper Award for the detection of ozone using fourth harmonic of Nd:YAG Laser at the first Internal Conference and Exhibition on Laboratory Technology, Bahrain (2008). He was also awarded the Best Project award for year 2008 and 2009 by KFUPM. Gondal got a Distinguished Professorship Award in 2009 and 2010. He is a Member of the Editorial Boards of the International Journal of Molecular Spectroscopy, Arabian Journal for Science and Engineering, the Pakistan Journal of Analytical & Environmental Chemistry, and the R.J. Environmental Earth Sciences. He works also as an Associate Editor of Sensors and Instrument.
