Han Houdijk was born in Made, The Netherlands on January 20, 1969. He was graduated as a Physical Therapist from the HogeSchool West Brabant Breda in 1991. In 1996, he obtained his Doctorate degree with honors from the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences of the VU University in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from the same university on a project concerning push-off mechanics in speed skating and the development of the so-called “klapskate.” After this project, he went back to his rehabilitation/physical therapy background and is currently employed as an Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Human Movement Sciences of the VU University in Amsterdam and is working as the Head of the Gait and Exercise Laboratory of the Rehabilitation Center Heliomare in Wijk aan Zee, the Netherlands. Houdijk is currently the Chair of the Dutch/Flemish Society for Clinical Movement Analysis (Smalll). His main research focus is on biomechanics and energetics of pathological gait.
