Yasushi Kawagoe received a Ph.D. degree from Louisiana State University in 1994. After Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (1995-1996) and University of California, Davis (1997–2000), he accepted an appointment as a Researcher at the National Institute of Agrobiological Sciences, Tsukuba, Japan, in 2000. Kawagoe was appointed as an Adjunct Professor at the Graduate School of Bioagricultural Sciences, Nagoya University, Japan, in 2007. His research interests have been to understand molecular mechanisms for the synthesis of storage materials including proteins, starch, and cell wall polysaccharides in the rice grain. Current studies have centered on oxidative protein folding, plastid division, and beta-glucan synthesis in rice.
