Yuyuan Zhao is a Reader in materials engineering at the School of Engineering, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, UK. He obtained his B.S. degree from Dalian University of Technology in 1985 and M.S. degree in 1988, obtained his Ph.D. degree from Oxford University in 1995, worked as a Research Fellow at Birmingham University in 1995-1998, joined Liverpool University as a Lecturer in 1998, and was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005 and Reader in 2010. He is the Director of three M.S. programs: Advanced Engineering Materials (AEM), Advanced Manufacturing Systems and Technology (AMST), and Product Design and Management (PDM). His research areas are manufacturing and characterization of porous metals and metal matrix syntactic foams. He has published more than 75 scientific papers. He is the inventor of the Sintering and Dissolution (SDP) and the Lost Carbonate Sintering (LCS) processes. The LCS patent has been licensed to a manufacturer for commercial production. A project on the LCS process, jointly conducted with five industrial partners, was a 2010 finalist of the Engineer Technology & Innovation Award in the manufacturing and process innovation category. Dr. Zhao is a Fellow of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining (IoMMM). He is a member of the Editorial Board of Powder Metallurgy, the Advisory Committee of JOM, the Particulate Engineering and Composite Materials Committees of IoMMM, and the Composite Materials Committee of ASM/TMS.
