James D. Oliver
James D. Oliver received his undergraduate degree in microbiology at the University of Arizona and his Ph.D. degree at Georgetown University, DC, USA. After undertaking postdoctoral studies in biochemistry at the University of Ottawa, he accepted a faculty position at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he has taught and conducted his research for 34 years. He has published 130 papers and 17 book chapters and presented over 170 papers at international conferences, primarily on V. vulnificus and related pathogenic vibrios. Nearly 50 students have received graduate degrees under his direction. Moreover, he has been a Visiting Professor at the University of Goteborg, Sweden, the Royal Veterinary and Agricultural University in Copenhagen, the National University of Ireland, Galway, and the University of Aberdeen, Scotland. Dr. Oliver is a Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology, a Member of the American Water Works Association Standard Methods Committee, and on the Editorial Board of FEMS Microbiology Ecology.
