José Badal Born in Murcia, Spain, 30 July 1945. PhD, Professor of Physics of the Earth at the University of Zaragoza, Spain. Some positions held in the past: Deputy-Director of Geodesy and Geophysics in the National Geographic Institute of Spain, and Vice-President of the Executive Council of the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre. At present: Titular Member of the European Seismological Commission and ESC Council Member. External Evaluator of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. President of the Section of Seismology and Physics of the Earth Interior and Member of the Spanish National Commission of Geodesy and Geophysics. Emeritus Member of the European Geosciences Union. Silver Pin of the American Geophysical Union. Current research interests: Seismology (Unesco code 250705), Modelling of Earth Structures by Wide-angle Seismic Profiling and Surface Wave Dispersion, Forward and Inverse Modelling, Elastic, Anelastic and Anisotropic Media, Near-Surface Seismic Velocity Modelling, Seismic Tomography, 3-D Imaging of Earth Structures at Different Scales, Simulation of Seismic Wave Fields, Fractal Properties of the Seismicity. Author of about 220 communications presented in international meetings and 150 papers, most of them published as SCI papers in international scientific journals.
