Anna Iuliano was born in Settingiano, Italy, in 1964. She received the Chemistry degree (Laurea) from the University of Pisa, Pisa, Italy, in 1989. Since 1989, Iuliano is working at the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry of the University of Pisa. From 1990 to 1992 she was a Ph.D. student in organic chemistry at the University of Pisa. From 1992 to 2005, Iuliano was a Research Associate of the Department of Chemistry and Industrial Chemistry at the University of Pisa. Presently, she is an Associate Professor at the same department. During 1998, she spent a three-month period as Maitre de Confererence at the “Laboratoire d' Analyse Chimique par Reconnaissance Moléculaire” of the University of Bordeaux 1, working on a joint research project concerning the synthesis of biselector systems for enantioselective HPLC. Iuliano's scientific interests are focused on the synthesis of chiral auxiliaries and their use in enantiorecognition processe. For five years Iuliano has directed her scientific attention mainly towards the synthesis of chiral “tropos” phosphorus ligands, deriving from natural products, and their use in asymmetric catalysis.
