Narcís Cardona was born in Barcelona, Spain, on November 20th, 1963. He received the M.S. degree in communications engineering from the ETSE Telecomunicación at the Polytechnic University of Catalunya, in Barcelona 1990 and the Ph.D. degree in communications engineering from the Polytechnic University of Valencia in 1995. Since October 1990, he has been with the Communications Department of the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), and since 2001, he has been a Full Professor at this department. Professor Cardona is in head of the Mobile Communications Group at the UPV, with 30 researchers including assistant professors and research fellows. Additionally, he is the Director of the Mobile Communications Master degree and Assistant Director of the Research Institute of Telecommunications and Multimedia Applications (iTEAM). Professor Cardona has led several National research projects and has participated in some European projects, Networks of Excellence, and other research forums, always in Mobile Communications aspects. At European scale, Professor Cardona has been the Vice Chairman of COST273 Action in Broadband Mobile Networks and the Chair of the WG3 of COST2100 in the area of Radio Access Networks. His group is also in contact with most of the Spanish operators and vendors related with Wireless Systems and Networks. He has published over 140 international papers in the most relevant proceedings and conferences. Professor Cardona is author of 8 patents and some books on mobile communications technologies. His current research interests include mobile channel characterisation: planning and optimisation tools for cellular systems, RRM techniques applied to personal communications, and broadcast cellular hybrid networks.
