Olaf Prante serves as a Professor of molecular imaging and radiochemistry at the Medical Faculty of Friedrich-Alexander University (FAU) of Erlangen-Nuremberg, Germany. After studying chemistry at the University of Cologne, he joined the Research Center in Juelich where he obtained his Ph.D. degree in nuclear chemistry in 2000 under the supervision of H. H. Coenen. He changed to the Clinic of Nuclear Medicine at the University Hospital Erlangen in 1999, where he has been serving as the Head of the Laboratory of Molecular Imaging since 2002. In the Laboratory of Molecular Imaging, he had a special focus on the development of PET tracers and the implementation of novel radiolabeling methods. In 2008, he obtained his habilitation and venia legendi for molecular imaging and radiochemistry under the supervision of T. Kuwert (nuclear medicine) and P. Gmeiner (medicinal chemistry). He has been honored by the PHOENIX Pharmacy Scientific Award in 2008 and received the Georg von Hevesy Award of the German Society of Nuclear Medicine in 2009. Since 2010, he has been appointed as a Professor of molecular imaging and radiochemistry at the FAU. The group of Prante has a special interest in F-18 chemistry and the preclinical evaluation of radiopharmaceuticals for PET by interdisciplinary methods, including small animal imaging.
