Hiroshi Asakura is Laboratory Head in the Division of Biomedical Food Research, National Institute of Health Sciences, Japan. Asakura received Ph.D. degree from the United Graduate School of Veterinary Sciences, Gifu University, Gifu, Japan. He completed his postdoctoral fellowship at the Max-Planck-Institute for Infection Biology, Berlin, Germany, in the fields of helicobacter pathogenesis and its interaction to host cell. His current interests for research are adaptation and evolution of campylobacter, helicobacter, and other foodborne bacteria, linking to the pathogenesis, epidemiology, and ecology.
