Jan O. Aasly is a Consultant and a Professor of Neurology at the University Hospital, Trondheim, Norway. He received M.D. degree (1977)from the University of Oslo Medical School, Oslo, Norway, and a Ph.D. degree (1990) in neuroscience from the University of Northern Sweden, Umea, Sweden. However, he had an internship at the Department of Internal Medicine, Ersta Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden (1977–1978), an internship at the Department of General Surgery, Ersta Hospital (1978–1979), and a residency at the Department of Ophthalmology, Ålesund Hospital, Ålesund, Norway (1979–1980). He was a Resident Neurologist at Trondheim University Hospital (1980–1984), a Research Fellow at the Department of Neurophysiology, University of Northern Sweden, Umea, Sweden (1984–1985), a Consultant at the Department of Neurology, University of North Norway, Tromsø, Norway (1986–1988), a Consultant at the Department of Neurology, University Hospital, Trondheim, Norway (1989–1991), the Head of Department of Neurology, University Hospital, Trondheim, Norway (1992–1999), and has been a Professor of Neurology, University hospital, Trondheim, Norway, since 2006. In 1979, he received a Federal Licensing Examination, Oslo, Norway; 1983, Norwegian Board of Clinical Neurophysiology; 1986, Norwegian Board of Neurology. In 1973, he was a Member of the Norwegian Medical Association; 1985, the Norwegian Neurological Association; 1996, the Movement Disorders Society; 1999, the American Academy of Neurology. In 2005, he was an Elected Member of the American Neurological Association, and in 2008, a Member of the Editorial Board, Journal of Parkinsonism and Related Disorders. He contributed about 100 publications in Pubmed. In addition, he has book chapters and a number of articles for patients and popular magazines.
