José L. Quiles
José L. Quiles, holder of a Ph.D. degree, was born in Purchena (Almería, Spain), in 1968. He graduated in biology at the University of Granada, Spain (1991) and completed the M.S. degree in nutrition (2002) at the University of Granada. He got his Ph.D. degree in 1995 (apto cum laude; University of Granada’s extraordinary award of doctorate), and he was working as Postdoc at the Rowett Research Institute in Aberdeen, Scotland, for two years (1997-1999) doing research on prostate cancer in relation to diet and oxidative stress with the group of Professor Klaus Wahle. He gained a Ramon y Cajal Contract from the Spanish Ministry of Science and Technology in 2003. Presently, he is an Associate Professor of physiology at the University of Granada, Spain. He is also Member of the Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology "José Mataix" also at the University of Granada. Research conducted by Dr. Quiles is based on oxidative stress and dietary interactions in relation to aging and longevity. Dr. Quiles has been working for several months at the Institute of Biochemistry, University of Ancona, Italy, where he has been a Visiting Professor at the laboratory of Professor Maurizio Battino. Dr. Quiles has published up to the moment 89 JCR papers and is coeditor of the book Olive Oil and Health (Cabi publishing Group, 2006; ISBN: 1-84593-068-1).
