Chikayoshi Sumi received the B.E, M.E., and D.E. degrees from the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, in 1991, 1993, and 1996, respectively. From 1996 to 1998, he was a Research Fellow of the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science and a Research Associate at Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan. In 1997, Sumi was a Visiting Scholar at the Bioacoustics Research Laboratory at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign, Champaign, IL, USA. He served as a Lecturer at the Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan, and currently he is an Associate Professor at the Department of Information and Communication Sciences, Sophia University, Tokyo, Japan. His research interests include medical ultrasound, elasticity imaging, noninvasive treatment, biological signal processing, and inverse problems. He is a Senior Member of the IEEE, the Japan Society of Ultrasonics in Medicine, the Japan Society of Medical Electronics and Biological Engineering, the Institute of Electronics, Information and Communications Engineers of Japan, and the Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan. Currently, he is on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Reports in Medical Imaging, the Journal of Medical Engineering, and the International Journal of Biomedical Imaging.
