Carlos M. Silva got his degree and Ph.D. degree in chemical engineering at FEUP, Portugal. He is a Professor of chemical engineering at the Department of Chemistry of the University of Aveiro, Portugal, and is a Member of Associate Laboratory CICECO – Centre for Research in Ceramics and Composite Materials. His research areas range from synthesis and characterization of microporous silicates for catalysis, adsorption, and ion exchange, to the measurement and modeling of transport properties, molecular dynamics simulation, supercritical fluid extraction, separation processes (membranes, adsorption/SMB, and ion-exchange) and reaction (oxidative catalysis, catalytic oligomerization of olefins, biomass conversion), and analysis and processing/preparation of heavy crude oil mixtures and bitumens. Silva has published 85 peer reviewed journal articles, 5 book chapters, and 1 patent.
