Nirag C. Jhala
Nirag Jhala serves as a Full Professor of pathology and laboratory medicine and serves as Head of special procedures and organ pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. Prior to this, he was Junior Faculty at the Departments of Pathology and Microbiology at the B. J. Medical College. He subsequently moved as a Pathologist at the WHO and UICC Recognized Comprehensive Regional Cancer Center of Gujarat Cancer and Research center. From here he served as Visiting Professor/ Scholar at the Medical College of Pennsylvania. He holds graduate medical education in India (M.B. and B.S. degrees) as well as completed postgraduate training [M.D. degree (Ph.D. degree equivalent)] in Ahmedabad, India. During this time, he has received eight gold medals for his academic distinction. He is also board certified in anatomic pathology and clinical pathology [Laboratory Medicine] in the United States and further holds an added qualification in cytopathology from the same American Board of Pathology. Dr. Jhala is an outstanding diagnostic pathologist, with particular expertise in cytopathology and surgical pathology. He has extensively published over 100 peer-reviewed publications and has extensively presented at national and international conferences. He has been the coauthor of a number of awards and prizes for scholarly works from, among others, the American Society of Cytology, the American Society for Clinical Pathology and the Academy of Clinical and Laboratory Physician Scientists. He is a member of 11 professional societies, has contributed book chapters in several books, is on 3 editorial boards and is an Ad Hoc Reviewer for many high impact journals including Cancer Research, Laboratory Investigation, and Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He was first elected to Best Doctors in America in 2005 and Marquis’ Who’s Who in Science and Engineering in 2004.
