Lowell D. Kispert

Lowell D. Kispert received his B.S. degree in chemistry and mathematics from St. Olaf College, Minn, USA, in 1962, and his Ph.D. degree in chemistry from Michigan State University in 1966. He has been a Research Professor at the Department of Chemistry, The University of Alabama, since 1980. Between 1995 and 2002, he was the Chair of the Department of Chemistry, The University of Alabama. From 1977 to 1980, he was a Professor of chemistry at The University of Alabama. He was also an Associate Professor of chemistry at The University of Alabama during 1972–1977, then an Assistant Professor during 1968–1970. He was a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Mellon Institute, Pa, USA, from 1967 to 1968, and a Postdoctoral Research Associate at Varian Associates, Palo Alto, Calif, USA, between 1966–1967. He is a Member of the American Chemical Society, the American Physical Society, Sigma Xi, and the International EPR (ESR) Society. He was the Director of Summer Undergraduate Research at The University of Alabama in 1983–2006. His fields of interest include structure and reaction mechanisms of free radicals in irradiated organic single crystals, liquids, and powders using electron spin resonance, electron-nuclear double resonance, electron-electron double resonance, and electron spin echo methods, and the properties of carotenoids and conducting polymers.
