Helmuth Steinmetz

Helmuth Steinmetz was born in 1955 in Cologne, Germany. He received his medical degree at the University of Giessen, Hessen, Germany, in 1982. Following residencies in psychiatry, neurosurgery, neuroradiology, and neurology in Giessen, Tübingen, and Düsseldorf, he became a Lecturer and a Hermann and Lilly-Schilling-Professor of neurology at the Heinrich-Heine-University Düsseldorf in 1991 and 1994, respectively. Since 1998, he has held the Chair of Neurology at the Center for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Goethe-University Frankfurt am Main. His scientific interests cover the fields of vascular neurology and functional anatomy/brain imaging. He has been the Vice Dean (research) of the Medical Faculty at Goethe-University from 2001 to 2007, and he currently is the Coordinator of the Brain Imaging Center Frankfurt (BIC) and an Executive Board Member of the Interdisciplinary Center for Neuroscience Frankfurt (ICNF).
