Dr Spomenka Simovic currently holds competitive Hypatia Fellowship awarded by the University of South Australia (UNiSA) in 2008. Spomenka's research interests are in the field of nanotechnology, encompassing advanced porous biomaterials, biochemical engineering and the application of microfabrication to drug delivery. She is particularly interested in the development of sophisticated non –invasive drug delivery devices that enhance the therapeutic activity of the incorporated drug molecules while eliminating or minimizing their potential side effects by selectively targeting the diseased tissue with cellular and sub-cellular accuracy. Dr Simovic holds MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology and Biopharmaceutics (2000) and PhD in Colloid and Interface Science (2004). Her PhD and postdoctoral work focuses on: (i) nanoporous emulsion particles for enhancement of oral bioavailability of poorly soluble drugs and (ii) investigation of ex vivo skin penetration kinetics and metabolic toxicity profiles of nanoparticles. Dr Simovic is the author of 3 textbook chapters, 32 refereed journal articles, over 35 international conferences papers and is inventor of 4 patents.
