Stefano Bellentani obtained his M.D. degree from the School of Medicine, University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, Modena, Italy, in 1979. He was a Fulbright Travelling Fellow at the Laboratory of Dr. W. G. M. Hardison, Professor of medicine in residence, University of California, San Diego, CA, USA, from 1982 to 1983. He received his Ph.D. degree in hepatology in 1988. Since 1987, Bellentani has served as the Chief of the Scientific Committee of the Foundation for the Study of Liver Diseases, Trieste and Modena, Italy. He also worked as the Consultant of the Italian National Health System at the Ramazzini Hospital (Modena, Italy). Bellentani’s research activity is mainly focused on hepatology and gastroenterology fields; science research, for example, experimental cholestasis and alcoholic liver disease and organic anions hepatocyte transport; and clinical research such as liver steatosis, NAFLD, AFLD, nutrition (food and drinking habits), therapy of chronic liver diseases, and epidemiology of chronic liver diseases (hepatitis, liver steatosis, and alcoholic liver disease). Bellentani is the author of 125 publications, 75 of which in international peer-reviewed journals, 20 in national journals, and 37 book chapters. Furthermore, he is the author of 150 abstracts selected for oral or poster presentations at both national and international meetings.
