Hanxing Zhu is a Senior Lecturer in mechanics of materials and structures at the School of Engineering, Cardiff University, Cardiff, UK. He obtained his Ph.D. degree in materials science from the University of Birmingham, Birmingham, UK, and then worked as a Research Associate at Cambridge University, Cambridge, UK, prior to joining Cardiff School of Engineering, Cardiff, South Glamorgan, UK. His major research interests include the mechanical and physical properties of cellular materials, biological and hierarchical materials, nanomaterials, and functionally graded materials. Zhu has delivered many invited research presentations at institutes (e.g., Peking University, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Fraunhofer Institute, and Glasgow University) and international conferences (e.g., ICTAM and ECSM). Zhu has authored/coauthored over 80 publications (a majority in over 20 different international journals). Many of his papers are published in top mechanics and materials journals (e.g., Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, International Journal of Plasticity, Journal of Biomechanics, and Acta Materialia). He has been a regular Reviewer of research papers for 30 different international journals (e.g., Journal of the Mechanics and Physics of Solids, International Journal of Plasticity, Journal of Biomechanics, Acta Materialia, Mechanics of Materials, International Journal of Solids and Structures, Journal of Applied Physics, etc.).
