Luciano Silva received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in informatics from the Federal University of Paranà (UFPR), in 1998 and 2000, respectively. In 2003, he received his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and industrial informatics from Federal Technological University of Paranà (UTFPR) with a sandwich doctorate stage at the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, The Ohio State University (OSU), USA. Currently, he is an Associate Professor at the Informatics Department at the Federal University of Paranà. He has developed multidisciplinary projects related to computer science, medical informatics, security and special education areas, with particular emphasis on computer vision, image processing, computer graphics. His main researches are focused on 3D modeling from images, range images analysis, image and video mining, biometry, security and surveillance, digital television, telemedicine, accessibility tools for people with special needs, virtual museum, and digital preservation (cultural heritage) of natural and cultural objects. He is the Head of IMAGO Research Group www.imago.ufpr.br that was founded in 1995 while he was an undergraduate student at UFPR.
