George Anastassopoulos received a Diploma and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering and computer technology from the University of Patras, Greece, in 1989 and 1996, respectively. He works as the Head of the Medical Informatics Laboratory at the Medical School of the Democritus University of Thrace, Greece. He serves as a Cooperative Professor in the Greek Open University. Since 1990, he has been involved in various research programs funded by the Greek Government, major Greek telecommunication industries, and the European Community. His current research interests include artificial intelligence, medical image processing, compression, medical telecommuting applications, medical databases and internet applications. He has published more than 50 papers in international journals and conferences. He is a Member of the Technical Chamber of Greece and also a Member of Greek Medical Technology and Informatics Company.
