Athanasios K. Petridis

Athanasios K. Petridis was born in Wesseling, Germany, in 1975. After spending his youth in Greece, he and his family moved back to Cologne, Germany where he finished high School in a greek gymnasium. He studied medicine at the University of Cologne, Germany, from 1994 to 2000. In 2000, he received his Ph.D. degree from the Institute of Virology in Cologne for his work on human papillomaviruses (magna cum laude). He started his neurosurgical residency in 2000 at the University Hospitals in Kiel, Germany. From 2002 to 2005, he served as a Neuroscience Fellow at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, where he studied the regeneration of the central nervous system. He moved back to Kiel in 2005 and completed his neurosurgical residency in 2010. He is working as an Attending Neurosurgeon at the University Hospitals in Kiel. His main interests are regeneration of the central nervous system and trauma, skull base, and pediatric neurosurgery.
