William C. Burhans
W. Burhans obtained a Ph.D. degree in cell biology from the University of Vermont College of Medicine and received his postdoctoral training at the Laboratory of Viral and Cellular DNA Replication at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology. After completing his training, he joined the Faculty at the Roswell Park Cancer Institute and SUNY at Buffalo, where he is an Associate Professor of oncology and Associate Member at the Department of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The initial focus of research at the Burhans laboratory was on DNA replication and its regulation by Chk1-dependent checkpoints in mammalian cells. In recent years, Dr. Burhans’ research efforts have broadened to include DNA replication and checkpoint regulation in the model organism S. cerevisiae, as well as connections between DNA replication, aging, and programmed cell death in this organism that are relevant to the problem of cancer.
