Makoto Goto graduated from Medical School, university of Tokyo with an M.D. degree in 1973. In 1976, he served as an Assiatant Professor at the Department of Rheumatology,University of Tokyo. From 1981to 1984, he served as a Research Fellow at the Department of Rheumatology, UCSD Medical Hospital, San Diego, CA, USA. From 1987to 2004, he served as a Director at the Department of Rheumatology, Tokyo Metropolitan Otsuka Hospital. Moreover, from 1989 to 1992, he worked as a Consultant at Genentec Corporation, USA and from 1994 to 2001, as a Consultant at Agene Research Institute. Since 2004, he held the position of a Professor at the Division of Antiageing and Longevity sciences and Department of Medical Technology, Faculty of Medical Engineering, Toin University of Yokohama. His clinical/research area has been focusing on the pathobiology of aging by studying rheumatoid arthritis and progeroid Werner syndrome.
