Yuriy G. Shermolovich
Yuriy G.Shermolovich was born in 1948 in Berestechko, Volynsk region, Ukraine. In 1971 he graduated from Lvov Polythechnical University, Ukraine, speciality – engineer-chemist-technologist. During the period of 1971-1992 he was a post-graduate fellow, than worked as an engineer, junior research worker, senior research assistant and the head of the laboratory of organosulfur chemistry at the department of professor L.N.Markovski, Institute of Organic Chemistry National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Kiev. He received the following degrees: Candidate`s Degree in Chemistry (analog of Ph.D) in 1975 (Thesis: The reactions between dialkylcyanoamides and sulfur chlorides), Doctor`s Degree in 1988 (Thesis: Polyhalogenoalkoxyphosphoranes). Since 1992 Yu. Shermolovich is the Head of Department of organosulfur chemistry, Institute of Organic Chemistry NAS of Ukraine. Since 1999 – professor, the deputy director of the Institute of Organic Chemistry National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. -The main purpose of scientific investigation of Yu.Shermolovych has been the search of organic reagents suitable for synthesis of biologically active compounds, especially fluorine-containing compounds. The results of Shermolovich`s investigations were published in 214 scientific papers in different chemical journals (russian and international) and 16 patents concerning the synthesis of new biologically active compounds for medicine and agriculture usage, antiwear additives and additives to plastics.
