Jose M. Perez-Pomares
UsJose M. Perez-Pomares was born in Málaga, Spain, in 1972. He graduated in biology in 1995 at the University of Málaga, where he also was conferred his Ph.D. degree in 2000 (cardiovascular developmental biology; summa cum laude). After a two year postdoctoral period at the Department of Cell Biology and Anatomy of the Medical University of South Carolina (Charleston, SC, USA), he returned to his home university undertaking both research and teaching duties as a Research Assistant (2002–2004) and an Assistant Professor (2004–2010). He currently is an Associate Professor at the Department of Animal Biology of the University of Málaga (Spain), a Visiting Scientist of the National Centre for Cardiovascular Research (CNIC) in Madrid (Spain), and a Member of the Nucleus (Board) of the Working Group on Developmental Anatomy and Pathology of the European Society of Cardiology (ESC). Dr. Perez-Pomares' reasearch interests relate to the embryonic origin of the cardiovascular system, with a special focus in the molecular control of cell differentiation and cell signaling during morphogenesis. Other interests include the study of regeneration phenomena in the cardiovascular system as related to stem or progenitor cells.
