Maria Nardella has been the Manager of the Children with Special Health Care Needs Program at the Washington State Department of Health since 2001. She is now the Manager of the new Healthy Starts and Transitions Unit that includes the CSHCN Program. The mission of the unit is to promote integrated systems of care that improve access, linkages, and coordination of health care and safe environments to assure that all children have the opportunity to achieve the healthiest life possible and develop to their full potential. Prior to this position, she was the Nutrition Consultant for the CSHCN Program in Washington and in a similar position for the Arizona Department of Health Services. She is a former national Board Member of the Association of Maternal and Child Health Programs (AMCHP), representing the states of Region X (Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and Alaska). Ms. Nardella received her undergraduate degree in Human Nutrition from Cornell University, Ithaca, NY, USA, and her M.S. degree in nutrition and mental retardation from the University of Washington, Seattle, WA, USA. She is a Registered Dietitian with the American Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (formerly the American Dietetic Association).
