Petters was a Postdoc, Developmental and Reproduction Biology, Yale University, 1976–1978. Petters was a Postdoctoral Associate, Department of Biology, Yale University, Developmental and Reproductive Biology, in the lab. of Dr. Clement L. Markert, 1976–1978 , an Assistant Professor, Department of Biology, The Pennsylvania State University, 1978–1983, an Associate Professor, Department of Animal Science, North Carolina State University, 1983–1990, and a Professor of Animal Science, North Carolina State University, since 1990. Petters is a Member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO), American Association of Animal Science (ASAS), Genetics Society of America (GSA), and International Embryo Transfer Society (IETS).
