Raffaele Cioffi has a degree in chemical engineering at the Federico II University of Naples, Naples, Italy. He is a Full Professor at Parthenope University of Naples, Italy, and teaches construction materials science and technology and materials engineering at the Faculty of Engineering at the same University. He is the Director of the Department of Technology and the Coordinator of the Technical and Scientific Committee for the Master Course in safety engineering of Parthenope University of Naples. He is a Member of the Italian Association on Materials Engineering (AIMAT), Italian Association on Chemistry in Engineering (AICIng), and the International Society for the Environmental and Technical Implication of Construction with Alternative Materials (ISCOWA). He is, also, member of board of Direction of American Concrete Institute (ACI), Italy. He is a Reviewer for Waste Management, Journal of Hazardous Materials, and Construction and Building Materials Elsevier's Journals. He is a Reviewer for the Italian University and Research Ministry for Research Projects of Great Interest. His main research activities concern the stabilization/solidification of hazardous industrial solid wastes, soils and sediments; the preparation of energy saving blended cements, concrete, and geopolymers materials made with coal fly ashes, blast furnace slag, chemical gypsum, powdered tuff, lead smelter slag, MSWI ashes; the durability of the products obtained through the formation of calcium silicate and the sulphoaluminate hydrates has been also studied in the presence of both chlorides and sulphates; the inertization by mechanochemical treatments of industrial and asbestos-containing wastes and sediments and the reuse of the obtained products as building materials; and life cycles assessment of production processes of ecocompatible construction materials.
