Dr. Raffaella Rastaldo was born on September 5 1970. She is Research Fellow at the Department of Clinical and Biological Sciences of the University of Turin. She graduated in Biological Sciences (MSc equivalent) in 1998 and in 2003 she was awarded her PhD degree in Cardiovascular Physiology at the University of Turin (Italy). She attended for two years as Post-doc Research Fellow at the Medicine Department, Cardiovascular Research Institute - New York Medical College, Valhalla – NY. She won two prices for “Young Investigators” assigned by the Italian Society of Cardiology (1999) and by the Italian Society for Cardiovascular Research (2005). Her research field is Cardiovascular Physiology. Her activity is focused on the signalling cascade of pharmacological post-conditioning against ischemia-reperfusion injury in isolated rat heart, as well as the prevention of myocardial fibrosis by PUFA, the repair of rat infarcted myocardium by MSC or cardiac stem cell and the migration of autologous stem cells to the infarcted myocardium. She is co-author of 34 full-lenght papers in the cardiovascular area and of the textbook “Fisiologia cardiovascolare: un approccio integrato”. She has also written three chapters of other books. She has served as a reviewer for the following international journals: Life Sciences; Antioxidant and Redox Signaling; Journal of Cardiovascular Pharmacology; Journal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine; Integrative Medicine Insights; Archives of Medical Science.
