Gérald E. Piérard is the Former Head of the Department of Dermatopathology at the University Hospital of Liège, Belgium. He is currently an Honorary Professor at both the University of Liège and the University of Franche-Comté, Besançon, France. He received his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees from the University of Liège. He was a Visiting Scientist at the New York University, New York, NY, USA. Piérard is the Past President of (a) the International Society of Dermatopathology (ISDP), (b) the International Society for Bioengineering and the Skin, (c) the European Group for Efficacy Measurement of Cosmetics and Other Topical Products (EEMCO), and (d) the European Society for Cosmetic and Aesthetic Dermatology (ESCAD). He is currently the President of the Mosan Study Group of Pigmentary Tumors, member of the board of 10 dermatological societies, associate editor of 9 scientific journals, and founding member of 6 scientific societies. Piérard's main research interests include skin cancers, mechanisms of action of pharmacological agents, and skin bioengineering.
