Peter Steel

Peter Steel is a Professor of chemistry at the University of Canterbury, Christchurch, and specializes in the design and synthesis of new nitrogen-containing molecules for use in coordination, organometallic, and supramolecular chemistry. His research group has prepared many novel heterocyclic compounds which, in combination with transition metals, have been used to construct a variety of topologically diverse species. This approach has been used to prepare both discrete molecular structures and extended polymeric arrays. New molecular architectures have been obtained, including molecular cages, boxes, helicates, lattices, ladders, multiply-cyclometallated compounds, and 1-, 2- and 3-dimensional coordination polymers. He is a Fellow of the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry, a Fellow of the Royal Society of New Zealand and has published over 300 papers.
