John Spencer

John Spencer was born in Shirebrook (Derbyshire) in 1968. After gaining a B.S. degree (1st class honors) from Sussex University (1986-90) in chemistry (with French) he went to work with Dr. Michel Pfeffer (ULP, Strasbourg, France) on palladacycles (1990-94) before a postdoc with professor Antonio Togni (ETH, Zurich) working on asymmetric catalysis (1994-5). He worked in the pharmaceutical industry as a Bench Chemist implementing parallel synthesis/microwave technology (e.g., James Black Foundation 2001-6) before taking up a Reader position at the University of Greenwich in 2006. His current interests include metallodrugs, (kinase and HDAC inhibitors), palladacycles, and microwave mediated synthesis as well as general medicinal chemistry.
