Markus Kampmann received a Diploma in electrical engineering from the University of Bochum, Germany, in 1993 and a Ph.D. degree in telecommunications from the University of Hannover, Germany, in 2002. From 1993 to 2001, he was working as a Research Assistant at the Institute of Communication Theory and Signal Processing, the University of Hannover, Germany. Since 2001, he has been working with Ericsson Research in Aachen, Germany, where he is involved in or leading several research projects about multimedia communications funded by the European Union or the German Government. His main research areas are video communications, video streaming and video coding, mobile media transport and delivery, and mobile broadcasting. He is an active contributor to 3GPP standardization. He is serving as an Associate Editor of IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting and International Journal of Digital Multimedia Broadcasting and was a Guest Editor of the Special Issue of IEEE Transactions on Broadcasting on Mobile Multimedia Broadcasting. He was the Chairman of the European Symposium on Mobile Media Delivery (EuMob) 2006 and of the International Symposium on Multimedia over Wireless (ISMW) 2007. He is serving as the Evaluator of ICT proposals for the European Commission and as an Auditor of ICT projects on multimedia communications. He has published more than 70 research papers and holds over 20 granted or pending patents. Since 2008, he works as an Adjunct Professor at Aachen University of Technology. He is a Member of IEEE, VDE, ITG, GI, and FKTG.
