Nelson Hamerschlak is Head of Hematology, Oncology, and Bone Marrow Transplant Group of the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein, Morumbi, SP, Brazil. Hamerschlak graduated in medicine in 1978 from the Federal University of São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. He received a Ph.D. degree im immunology in 1991 from at the University of São Paulo, São Paulo, SP, Brazil. He was a fellow in hematology and transfusion medicine in 1989 at the Cornell University Medical College, New York, NY, USA. From 1990 to 1992, he was President of the Brazilian Association of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine. He is a member of the Brazilian Association of Hematology and Transfusion Medicine, International Society of Cell Therapy (ISCT), Brazilian Society of Internal Medicine, Brazilian Society of Bone Marrow Transplantation, International Society of Hematology, and American Society of Hematology.
