Université Blaise Pascal, Clermont-Ferrand, France

Philip E. Hoggan was born and brought up in Aberystwyth. He received his B.A. and M.A. degrees at Trinity, College, Cambridge. Afterwards, he travelled to France in 1983 where he received a Doctorate degree in quantum chemistry methodology applied to physisorption. His current position is the Chair of theoretical chemistry at Clermont. His research interests are integrals over exponentially decaying orbitals and their applications to long-range intermolecular interactions as well as to Quantum Monte Carlo simulations. A number of applications, mainly in heterogeneous catalysis, have resulted. These range from mathematical work to biology.
