Vatsala Misra earned the M.B.B.S. degree in 1980 and the M.D. degree in 1984 from M.L.N. Medical College, Allahabad. She became an Assistant Professor of pathology at BRD Medical College Gorakhpur in 1988 and moved to Medical College Allahabad in 1989. She was promoted to the post of Associate Professor in 1999 and to the post of Professor in 2006. She became the Head of the Department of Pathology in 2009. She is actively engaged in research and teaching throughout her carrier. She was awarded the prestigious Kunti Devi Mehrotra Award of the Indian Association of Pathologists and Microbiologists in 1998 and Dr. V. R. Khanolkar Award in 2001 for her publications. She was elected as a Fellow of Indian College of Pathologists in 2002. She has worked as a Joint Secretary of the Indian Association of Pathologists and microbiologists (2005-2007). At present, she serves as a Secretary of the Indian College of Pathologist and as an Executive Council Member of the International Academy of Pathologists. Her main field of research is gastrointestinal pathology and cytology. She serves as a Reviewer for national and international journals. She has published more than 130 papers in various international and national journals. She has supervised about 85 research projects as a Guide and as a Coguide.
