Antonio Antunes

User Biography : Dr Antonio Antunes António Pais Antunes is a professor at the University of Coimbra (UC), Portugal. He holds a Diploma in Civil Engineering from the University of Coimbra and a PhD in Applied Sciences, branch Spatial Planning, from the University of Louvain, Belgium. He was the Director of Planning of the Centro Region Development Agency, in Portugal (1983-85), a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University (1998), and an Invited Professor at EPF Lausanne (2010). His teaching and research focus on Spatial Planning and Transportation Engineering. Up to now, he has supervised 17 PhD students and authored over 200 scientific publications, including 45 articles in peer-reviewed journals. António Pais Antunes currently acts as Director of CIEC - Civil Engineering Research Center, an R&D unit of the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology, and as Director of the Doctoral Program in Transportation Systems in the University of Coimbra. Also, he is a member of the Coordinating Team of the MIT Portugal Program and a member of the Scientific Advisory Board of the Singapore MIT Alliance for Research and Technology, area of Future Urban Mobility.
