Toshihiko Matsumoto

Toshihiko Matsumoto was born in 1952 in Aomori Prefecture, Japan. He received the Ph.D. degree in chemistry from the University of Tokyo, Tokyo, Japan, under the mentorship of Professor Shohei Inoue in 1984. He served as a Postdoctoral Fellow at RIKEN (The Institute of Physical and Chemical Research, Japan). In 1985, he was appointed Assistant Professor at Tokyo Institute of Polytechnics (renamed Tokyo Polytechnic University) and joined the research group of Professor Toshikazu Kurosaki at the Department of Industrial Chemistry (now reorganized, Department of Life Science and Sustainable Chemistry). In 1993, he became Associate Professor at the same University and in 2003 he was promoted to Professor of Polymer Chemistry. Now, he is Director of Center for Nano Science and Technology at Tokyo Polytechnic University. He has received Award for Encouragement of Research in Polymer Science, The Society of Polymer Science, Japan (1984). His current research interest is focused on the design and synthesis of novel polymers including colorless polyimides and functional macrocycles.
