Jirí Málek obtained the M.D. and C.S. degrees. He graduated at the Medical School of Charles University in Prague, Czech Republic, and started working as a Ph.D. candidate at the Department of Anesthesiology, Third Medical School of Charles University, in which he has worked at various posts, and recently as a Senior Lecturer. He also worked as a Senior Registrar at Great Britain at university Hospitals in Leicester and Nottingham, UK, in 1990-1991. Moreover, Dr. Málek passed 1st and 2nd degree diploma in anesthesiology and intensive medicine in 1984 and 1988, respectively, and specialized in algesiology in 1996. He received his Ph.D. degree in 1989, which presented a complex study concerning clinical trials of new postoperative analgesics. Then, he was approved a Docent after habilitation at Medical Faculty of Charles University in 2001. His fields of interests are new anesthetic techniques and their influence on peri- and postoperative outcome and pain therapy. He is also a Member of the following scientific societies: European Society of Anaesthesiologists (Nomination Committee), Czech Society of Anaesthesia and Intensive Care, Czech Society for Study and Treatment of Pain, Czech Medical Society, and the Editorial Board of the journal Anesteziologie a Intenzivní péce. He was a Principal Investigator of seven grants and a coworker of other seven grants. Dr. Málek is also involved in educational activities of medical students and postgraduate education in anesthesiology (European Academy) and pain therapy (Institute for Postgraduate Education).
