Christine Stroh

Christine Stroh, a holder of the M.D. and Ph.D. degrees, is a Consultant Surgeon at the Department of General, Visceral and Children Surgery, SRH Hospital Gera, Gera, Germany. Dr. Stroh started the surgical specialisation in visceral surgery from 2001 until 2006. At the beginning, her main focus was on gastric banding with several publications on this field. After being awarded with the Research Fellowship of the German Society of Surgery, she visited several bariatric centers in USA in 2006. In January 2005, she initiated together with several experts on bariatric surgery the German Society of Visceral Surgery and the German Society of Bariatric Surgery. Data collection is performed in cooperation with the Institute of Quality Assurance at the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg. According to her experience on bariatric and metabolic surgery and the data collection, she published the results on the German Nationwide Survey on sleeve gastrectomy, gastric banding, and several different fields of obesity surgery. In 2008, she started a further education in cooperation with the Otto-von-Guericke University of Magdeburg, and since 2011, she has been an Associate Professor of surgery. The main topic of her scientific work is quality assurance and control especially in bariatric surgery. Since April 2012, the German registry on bariatric surgery is integrated as a core domain at the competence network obesity in Germany.
