Jorge D. Erusalimsky

Jorge D. Erusalimsky was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1954. He received his Ph.D. degree in biochemistry from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Jerusalem, Israel, in 1983. Currently, he works as a Professor of biomedical sciences and Head of the Cellular Senescence and Vascular Biology Research Group at the School of Health Sciences, Cardiff Metropolitan University, Cardiff, UK. Professor Erusalimsky also serves as an Honorary Professor of University College London at the Wolfson Institute for Biomedical Research, London, UK. His main research interests include the cellular and molecular mechanisms that underlie the relationship between ageing and cardiovascular diseases. His work in this area was among the first to demonstrate the occurrence of vascular cell senescence in vivo. In addition, Professor Erusalimsky has a long standing interest in megakaryocytopoiesis and platelet biogenesis. He has authored over 70 peer-reviewed publications and 4 patents.
