Mohindar Seehra

Mohindar Seehra received the B.S. degrees in physics, chemistry, and mathematics from Punjab University, India, in 1959, and the M.S. degree in physics from Aligarh University, in 1962 (with first-class honors). After college teaching in India for two years (1959–1960 and 1962–1963), he joined the University of Rochester as a Ph.D. student in 1963, receiving Ph.D. in experimental condensed matter physics in 1969. He joined West Virginia University as an Assistant Professor of physics in 1969, and was promoted to an Associate Professor in 1973 and to a Professor in 1977. He was appointed as an Eberly Distinguished Professor of physics at West Virginia University in 1992, holding that position till May 2008. In Summer 2008, he became Eberly Professor Emeritus and Research Professor focusing primarily on research. Among his honors are A. P. Sloan Foundation Research Fellowship (1973–1976), election as a Fellow of the American Physical Society (since 1984) and the Institute of Physics (2001), UK, as well as numerous research grants from agencies such as National Science Foundation and US Department of Energy. He has guided the research of nearly 60 students at the M.S., Ph.D., and postdoctoral levels. His research interests in condensed matter physics are in the general area of experimental studies of the nature of magnetism of materials with special emphasis on nanostructures and nanoparticles. He is the author/coauthor of 240 publications including five reviews.
