Andrea De Laurentiis

Andrea De Laurentiis was born in Buenos Aires, Argentine, in 1968. She received the Licentiate degree in biological sciences from the Faculty of Exact and Natural Sciences of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentine, in 1993 and the Ph.D. degree from the School of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires, Argentine, in 2002. From 2003 to 2005, she was a Research Fellow at the National Agency for Scientific and Technological Promotion (ANPCyT) of the Secretariat of Science, Technology, and Productive Innovation from the Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology of Argentine. Since 2005, she has been an Establish Researcher at the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET) and has been in the Laboratory of Neuroinmunoendocrinology at the Center of Pharmacological and Botanical Studies at the School of Medicine of the University of Buenos Aires. She is mainly interested in the participation of the endocannabinoid system in the neuroendocrine response to infection and stress, evaluating the role of endocannabinoids in the activation of the hypothalamic-pituitary axis by bacterial lipopolysaccharide, in particular on the control of oxytocin and vasopressin secretion. Moreover, she is the Director of a grant from the National Council for Scientific and Technical Research (CONICET). She is a Member of The New York Academy of Sciences, a Member of the Board of the Argentinean Society of Clinical Investigation, and a Member of the Argentinean Society of Physiology. Recently, she was a recipient of the Young Investigator Award at the Joint Workshop of the Joint Research Conference of the Institute for Advanced Studies and the Israel Science Foundation on Cannabinoids in Biology and Medicine, at the Institute for Advanced Studies, of the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in October 2010.
