Kenji Oritani was born in Osaka, Japan, in 1959. He received the M.D. degree from Osaka University in 1983. From 1983 to 1993, he worked as a Member of the medical staff in Osaka University Hospital. From 1994 to 1996, he served as a Research Associate at the Immunology and Cancer program of Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation, Oklahoma City, USA. Since 1996, he has worked in Osaka University, and his present position is an Associate Professor at the Department of Hematology and Oncology, Osaka University. He is mainly interested in microenvironment for self-renewal of hematopoietic stem cells as well as early lymphocyte differentiation. The molecular mechanisms to regulate immune responses are also his current interest.
