Sayan Bhattacharyya

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research-Kolkata, India

User Biography : Prof Sayan Bhattacharyya Dr. Sayan Bhattacharyya is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Chemical Sciences of Indian Institute of Science Education & Research (IISER), Kolkata since April 2010. Dr. Bhattacharyya obtained his PhD degree from IIT Kanpur (India) in 2006, followed by postdoctoral positions (2006-2010) at Bar-Ilan University (Israel), and Drexel University (USA). The research at his group is focused on the fundamental and applied aspects of synthesis, characterization, and structure-property correlation of functional nanomaterials. His present research interests are: Modification of the conventional physical property-limits of doped rare-earth manganites at the nanoscale; Magnetic anisotropy enhancement and overcoming the superparamagnetic limit by one-dimensional confinement of ferromagnetic and antiferromagnetic nanoparticles; Porous carbon/graphene for membrane filtration and biological applications; Investigation of structural defects and morphology of metal-oxides; Solar energy conversion and maximizing the photoconversion efficiency through nano-confinement in order to address the global challenges of renewable clean energy; Waste remediation by greener and economical approaches to carbon nanomaterials for various applications; and Nano-channel heterogeneous catalysis.
