Run-Cang Sun studied at the BioComposites Centre, University of Wales, Bangor, UK as a full time research Ph.D. student between March 1993 and September 1996. Since October 1996, he worked at the University of Wales, Bangor, UK as a Senior Research Scientist until 2006. He was awarded a distinguished Professor at State Key Laboratory of Pulp and Paper Engineering, South China University of Technology, Guangzhou, China in 2000 and was selected as the Director in March 2008. In addition, Professor Sun has also worked at the Institute of Biomass Chemistry and Technology, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing, China as a Director since August 2006. He was selected as Dean, College of Materials Science and Technology in October 2011, Beijing Forestry University, Beijing, China. Since 1993, he has been focused on the fractional isolation, structural characterization, and chemical modification of hemicelluloses, lignin, and cellulose from lignocellulosic materials for industrial end use. He has published about 330 papers in peer reviewed journals in English. He published a book under the title of “cereal straw as a resource for sustainable biomaterials and biofuels: chemistry, extractives, lignins, hemicelluloses, and Cellulose” 2009, Elsevier, London. As invited author, he wrote 15 chapters in 15 books (in English) such as encyclopaedia of separation science, 2000 vol. 6, pp. 4568-4574, Academic Press, London. He has got 6 items of research awards. Professor Sun is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry, UK and was a Chairman of the 4th International Symposium on Emerging Technologies of Pulping and Papermaking (4th ISETPP, 2010), November 8-10, 2010, Guangzhou, China.
