Following his Vordiplom in chemistry at the University of Cologne, Germany, in 1991, Frank Roschangar received his Ph.D. degree in synthetic organic chemistry with Professor M.A. Ciufolini at Rice University in Houston, Tex, USA, in 1996, which was followed by a Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft- (DFG- ) sponsored postdoctoral appointment with Professor K.C. Nicolaou at the Scripps Research Institute in La Jolla, Calif, USA. In 1998, he accepted a position as Research Investigator I in the Chemical Development Synthetic Chemistry Department at Glaxo Wellcome (later GlaxoSmithKline) in Research Triangle Park, NC, USA. In 2002, he joined the US Chemical Development Department at Boehringer-Ingelheim Pharmaceuticals in Richmond, VA, and relocated to Ridgefield, Conn, in 2006, where he currently holds the position of Senior Associate Director of external chemistry and technology management. His scientific accomplishments are described in 20 technical papers and 7 patents and encompass areas as diverse as natural product synthesis, enzymatic chemistry, organometallic chemistry, heterocyclic chemistry, and photochemistry.
